Halo 3 Mod - Halo Modding Tools, Info and Overview…

A Halo 3 mod is generally considered to be any software modification that changes the gameplay in the super popular video game for the Xbox 360, Halo 3.  But the term also encompasses many other modifications, such as physical changes made to the Xbox 360 console to show the world that you’re hard-core Halo fanatic.

Before anyone can create a Halo 3 mod they need the proper tools, along with some expertise and knowledge.  This toolset generally includes a number of pieces of software that allow people to de-construct, edit, and reconstruct Halo 3 files.  It would also involve some hardware tool to allow Xbox 360 hard drive to be read onto a PC, and files to be restored to that hard drive.  This is absolutely necessary because the Xbox 360 is not a platform on which files can be modified.  In the past the hardware developers, in this case Microsoft, would make the tools available to people who pay the licensing fee. But over time, especially with halo three mods, the community has developed a number of tools and techniques to accomplish what needs to be done for modification.

A Halo 3 mod also encompass, as stated earlier, physical changes to Xbox 360 console.  Some people, for example, remove the case and actually carve the words Halo 3 into it.  They might accompany this by painting the console read, or blue, or green to match the color of the armor of the characters in the game. It’s a pretty extreme way to say to the world - I love Halo 3 – in that sometimes it could result in actual damage that renders an Xbox 360 unplayable. People often display their tricked out Xbox 360s on photo sharing sites such as Flickr, and when they attend live LAN events.

One of the things that people who are interested in the world of the Halo 3 mod try to focus on is that these should not be used for cheating.  Modifications are fun to get a new twist on Halo 3 play, or a new look or feel for certain levels. But if they’re used to make the game unfair in favor of one person or team, they destroy the overall game experience for everyone.
