Halo 3 Mods … So Simple An 8 Year-Old Can Do It!
Hey Halo Modding Fanantics,
As popular as the video game Halo 3 is, and indeed as popular as the whole series has become, Halo 3 mods are a hot topic. There are many websites dedicated to these mods, and many fans make them and make them available on servers to play. Halo 3 mods take on many forms – maps, weapons, physics modifications, and much more. This greatly enhances and extends the game-play of Halo 3.
Before one can make halo 3 mods one needs the proper tools in order to hack into the files, and modify them. One of these is referred to as the Halo 3 Toybox. This set of tools runs on a PC, which when connected to an Xbox 360 hard drive with the proper transfer hardware, can do nearly everything needed to fully mod Halo 3. In the beginning Microsoft was very stingy with giving up tools to mod the game. However, many people in the community found ways around them and now many people can mod the game
One of the sites that include some Halo 3 mods is ModHalo. It not only has a lot of mods, reviews of mods, but also tools and guides to help people mod Halo 3. The site is really a blog, set up something like a forum, where forum posts contain all the mods people have made. One of these mods is a map based on McDonald’s, posted in October of 2008. It received a pretty low rating, 53%, that shows not all the mods are good ones.
There are other types of Halo 3 mods besides the mods that change the game. One of these is a case mod, in other words a way to physically alter your Xbox 360 to fit more in with the Halo world. People have posted videos and pictures of their modifications to the Xbox 360 for halo in places like YouTube and Flickr. Some of these include cutting out part of the case to write the word halo or a number three in the case. That’s pretty severe modification for a console just based on one game, but it shows how much people love Halo 3.
Another aspect of the Halo 3 mods that has become popular is simply showing videos of gameplay from halo that is modded. It’s something of an element of showing off for people not only to give a glimpse of what they have created, but to show how well they can play within the universe of their own design. If you haven’t tried any of the Halo 3 mods, you might want to take a look.
Frag Carefully,
Michael
